Merchant
Accounts explained
Unlike retail physical
stores merchant accounts
where the card-holder
is actually present
at the time of purchase,
selling on the internet
of via call centre requires
a card-holder NOT present
type of merchant account
so as to accept credit
card payments "at
a distance".
Because the credit
card transaction is
undertaken "at
a distance" the
banks regard "card
holder not present"
type of merchant accounts
a higher risk proposition
than a bricks and mortar
regular merchant type
account. Nonetheless,
you must have a "Card
Holder not Present merchant
account" enabled
with a payment gateway
providor in order to
accept credit card payments
on the internet.
